Our Solutions

Every second of operating time consumes a bit of the lifetime of our wind turbines. So, how do we use this lifespan most efficiently? And how much lifespan does my turbine even have left? These and many other questions about site conditions, loads, and the lifespan of wind turbines are what we answer every day!
We perform load assessments to ensure that turbines can operate as much as possible – whether it’s for demonstrating structural safety in site suitability assessments or evaluating the potential for lifetime extension.
Load Assessment
Full throttle even under rough conditions

The planning of wind farm projects faces increasingly significant challenges. Particularly in repowering projects, site suitability assessments often show exceedances of design parameters in the newly planned or existing wind turbines. To ensure structural safety, operating restrictions are then necessary, which can lead to substantial losses in energy yield.
However, the exceedance of individual design parameters does not necessarily compromise structural safety. Through load calculations, we can examine the impact of all wind conditions in conjunction with the behavior of the turbine itself. This process not only compares the wind conditions with the design parameters but also assesses the actual loads on the turbines. This enables us to use the structural reserves of turbine components in the structural safety assessment.
Following the site suitability assessment, load calculations regularly help to reduce or even completely avoid operating restrictions. We conduct these calculations independently of the manufacturers, allowing us to evaluate any turbine type that has already been certified.

What do our solutions look like?
- Free preliminary assessment when turbulence calculations are already available
- Verifiable structural safety certification for all turbine types according to the state of the art for building approval (e.g. according to DIBt guideline)
- Feasibility studies in the early project phaseIf necessary: optimization of operating restrictions to minimize energy yield losses
- Close collaboration with site suitability experts for fast completion of your project
Lifetime Extension
Second wind for old mills

After the design lifetime of a wind turbine has been reached, it becomes necessary to determine the often considerable structural reserves of its components to enable a lifetime extension. This is done as part of the evaluation and assessment process for the continued operation of wind turbines – the lifetime extension report, as it is called in Germany.
We conduct the so-called “analytical part” of the lifetime extension report, which includes determining site wind conditions, load calculations, and the calculation of the potential remaining useful life.
We tailor our approach to the specific requirements of each project. If repowering is planned, it is often only necessary to bridge a short period before an old turbine is decommissioned. For these cases, we offer cost-effective solutions. Sometimes, however, turbines are intended to be operated for as long as possible. For such scenarios, we have a wide range of methods at our disposal, helping us find the right assessment approaches based on the site and turbine type to avoid wasting any remaining lifetime. This is especially critical at challenging sites, where turbines may have produced limited yields but have experienced high loads.
When needed, we also take a hands-on approach with the turbines themselves: together with our partners, we equip turbines with load monitoring systems either before or during continued operation. This allows us to measure actual loads directly. With this data, we can reduce conservative assumptions in our calculation models, achieving significantly better computational results compared to traditional methods!

What do our solutions look like?
- Cost-efficient calculation approaches for economic assessments and quick processing
- Verifiable documentation of calculations according to BWE minimum standards and DIBt guidelines
- Close collaboration with overall assessors to define technically and economically viable measures for safe continued operation, even in challenging cases
- Analytical solutions for detailed evaluations of critical components to avoid wasting potential
- Adjustment of operational strategies to better distribute energy yield over the lifetime
- In collaboration with our partners: Load monitoring to determine actual loads and utilize continued operation potential that cannot be captured solely through calculations
Wind Conditions and Layout Optimization
Get on track early on

In the early phases of project planning, creating wind farm layouts and the associated reports often proves to be complex and time-consuming. While the yield calculation may already be available, there is no guarantee that operational restrictions won’t arise much later in the project. Once site acquisition is finalized, there is little room left for problem-solving.
We get involved early in the project. Alongside assessing the wind conditions at the site, we also examine the expected turbulence loads, allowing us to determine early on whether a project is feasible under the given conditions. If issues, particularly regarding structural safety, are anticipated, we identify the best alternative solution for the new plan. In doing so, we take project-specific parameters into account, such as the available land or preferred turbine types. This approach creates room for flexibility.
Sometimes, we simply need to validate a wind statistic or prepare a turbulence calculation as groundwork for a later load calculation. We are happy to provide support at these stages as well.

What do our solutions look like?
- Quick insights into wind, turbulence, energy yield, and potential optimization opportunities
- Calculation of all relevant wind parameters according to FGW TR 6
- Early layout optimization to avoid losses, e.g., due to operational restrictions
- Integration with preliminary load calculations for a smooth approval phase
About us

We love wind energy. It not only makes a significant contribution to the future of emission-free energy supply but is also fascinating from a technical perspective. As engineers who want to make a difference in the world, wind energy is the perfect playground for us!
Our goal is to optimize wind farms worldwide with our solutions. In doing so, we contribute to decarbonization while also helping make projects even more economical.
apera engineers was founded in 2024, but as a team, we have already worked together for many years as part of the P. E. Concepts GmbH, from which apera engineers originated. This means we bring not only fresh energy but also a wealth of experience to the table. Our small yet effective team applies this expertise daily to customer projects and the development of new solutions at our Hamburg office.

Wind farms around the world deliver higher yields thanks to our ideas and solutions – project by project. We demonstrate ways to utilize the material in the field as best as possible. This not only enhances the economic viability of wind farm projects and strengthens wind energy as a cornerstone of energy supply but is also sustainable. In doing so, we make a tangible contribution to decarbonization and the expansion of sustainable energy generation on the planet.
